WHO WE ARE

First Baptist Church has a rich 150 year history of being a part of the Poplar Bluff community.  We believe that God has strategically placed us here to be a light and the hands and feet of Christ. We understand that the church is not a building but a people. It is not an organization but a growing organism. We long to follow God’s call to continue to grow as we seek to reach more people with the gospel. Our prayer is that we will be a part of something that we cannot explain but all we can do is say, “It’s ALL God!” Our prayer is that people will not be drawn to this place because we offer excellent programs but because the Spirit of God is in our midst. We long for people to leave here each week having encountered the One True Living God! We pray that if you come to worship King Jesus with us that you will have a God encounter and your life will never be the same.

LOVE UP AND LOVE OUT

We see the command to love up and love out clearly defined in scripture. (Matt. 22:37-40) At FBC of Poplar Bluff we desire to fulfill the greatest commandment by promoting a healthy relationship with Christ, His church, and our community. We joyfully love up and love out because God’s love first came down to us. (1 John 4:7)

SURRENDER

Exposed people Surrender to Jesus

Luke 14:26-27: Jesus said, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters – yes, even their own life – such a person cannot be my disciple. And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

SHARING

Exposed people expose other people to Jesus

Romans 10:13-15: “for, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? and how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

SERVING

Exposed people become Empowered to Serve for Jesus

1 Peter 4:10: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

SUPPLICATION

People Exposed to Jesus, Pray

Philippians 4:6: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

STRENGTHENING

Exposed people become Empowered to Live in Jesus

Romans 8:9-11: “You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.”

SACRIFICING

Exposed people become Empowered to Sacrifice because of Jesus

1 Peter 3:18: For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.
